any ideas what this is i found on a dig its about twice the size of a musket ball and seems to be made of stone

I once found some clay marbles, but they were a little smaller. I no longer have them or I'd post a pic. They weren't as polished as your stone appears. Maybe it is an ancient marble??

It looks a lot like a glazed clay marble to me.

may be handmade marble, marbles date back 2000 years. they have been found in thombs.

I have a couple of balls like that, made from marble. I bought them when i quit smoking they are Chinese stress balls, you put two in each hand or just the one hand and roll them around in your palm, to relieve stress and yes they work. that may not be what yours is but it certainly looks like one. the chinese have used these for a long long time.
