What do most meteorites look like?

Before I moved to Queensland, I lived in a town in Tasmania on the west coast called Queenstown, ( No I don't have a thing for places begining with Queen ) which was a mining Town. There were rocks like that everywhere it looks like a peice of either copper or iron ore. Point of interest when I was in Tasmania metal detectors were illegal to use for anything other than relic hunting. I wish I knew then what I know now.
