It would be helpful if you had more resolution on the coins. Its sort of difficult to make out all the letters. A couple of letters almost look Greek. But of course, the Greek (nor Roman) empire did not reach South Africa. So I don't know why their coins would be there. And the Europeans didn't come to SA until the 1600's.
If you can either copy the letters down or give higher resolution pictures, someone might be able to give you more information.
