I worked for Amtrak about 20 years ago and that Adlake lock was the standard lock seen on switches. There is probably many versions.

I checked my Antique Padlock book and it does not have this particular lock in it. Sorry

Oh, no problem Lockman. Pretty sure I'll find one old enough to appear in your book.  Wink

It's either a Railway lock as previously stated but worth mentioning is that those style locks were also used in prisons. I have one here in perfect condition, but no key that has New south wales Railway, and the bstate i live in Queensland use a similar style lock on railways as well. It may possibly be worth sending a picture to the boys at

as there are a lot of lock collectors there and i would be suprised if one of them couldn't ID it.

Thanks Bozzo. I'm still cleaning it. I paused the cleaning during the winter because I do the electrolysis cleaning in the backyard. It is not showing trace of any marking so far, which may signify any other use besides railroad. There were once old big houses in the area I found it. Not sure if there were a train station nearby, but a railroad track's bed crosses the area.

Yea I reckon railroad is probablly, the most likely explanation, and as i said they use the same style of locks on RR's all over Australia To. But I have noticed in old prisons they used the padlock as a backup to the lock on the door. B.T.W it's " Gozzo " not " Bozzo " lol. In Australia if you called me that in a Pub, we would be expected to step outside and settle it like " Gentlemen " lol. But how we would punch on at thirty paces, is a mystery to me. Seriously no offense taken.
Gozzo ( not Bozzo )

Basically it would mean you were calling me the equivalent of " Homer Simpson " as in Bozzo the clown. there is another word that ends in " wit " and starts with " F " it's a four letter one lol.
No offense taken
