Hi guys.

I am looking for some information on a coin that was in with a load of mixed coins that my grandad left me.I have been told that this forum is the best place to ask cos someone would know.I have seen other coins that are similar called Celtic stators but i have weighed it and it weighs 7.55 grams where all the other coins i have seen weigh between 5-6 grams. It has a diameter of 12-15mm.My question is what is it and is a real coin.

Hi jmkm.    Welcome from Arizona.
I moved your post from the new user introduction to this location to cut down on the "hello" e-mails (although I definitely appreciate your posting your first post at that location).
It may take a while for our members to get an answer to you, so be patient.  Seems to me you've given us plenty of information.   The only bit of info that might help identify it is if you could add a picture of the back side of the coin.

Thanks,

BA

That's a nice coin and a good image. See if you can do as well on the reverse side and perhaps a close up of the edge.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hi Guys

Taken a while to get back on here i know but better late than never as they say.

I would like to thanks the guys that identified my stator as a Gallo belgic ambiani.I am finding it hard to believe that this coin dates from around 150 BC.
I have tried to find some more information regarding the coins weight as at 7.55 grams it seems heavyer than other stators. Also it seems that there are different Gallo belgic stators like A,B,C,D which one is mine?
Any information that you guys could help me with would be very much appreciated

Very nice, interesting coin.  I've never seen anything like it!  If you could, please post some pictures of the reverse side and edge of it.  150 BC?  Gee, extremely interesting.
