Gentlemen,  I found this in the park today.  I've asked a couple of people what it is, but nobody was quite certain. It was found in a park that has a fishing pond and one fellow told me it was a sinker or fishing line weight. It looks kind of like some kind of ammo. It has a little weight to it, and a lead plug on one end. Could it be a cartrige for a nail gun?

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Yep. Definitely a bullet. The Cannalure  (ring around the center) is a giveaway. Hard to tell where it came from. Could have traveled for up to 5 miles before landing in that park. Someone might have had it in their pocket and dropped it with their keys etc. You never know Where they come from.

Thanks for your help guys. Yes, the more I think about it, it looks like the projectile of a bullet. Didn't know that there were lead - tipped bullets.

That's not a lead tip. The entire bullet is lead and it is semi-coppper jacketed. There is a nasty reason why the lead tip is left unjacketed. You might not want to know.

Thanks Arfie.
I hope some kid brought it to the park and lost it, because I sure would hate to have that come down and kill me or anyone else. We have a law here called Meagan's Law, named for a little girl who was killed when a randomly fired bullet fell from the sky while she was in the park with her family.
Fortunately they caught the guy who fired it an he is in prison now.

Looks like you are right Homie.  I put it under a magnifier and no marks at all. Looks like somebody lost it, or else someone is lousy at reloading.
