Xavier, that is exactly like the one I have
I better take it to the gun shop and have them dispose of it. No sense in taking chances.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Yours is a soft point in other words the copper jacket stops before the tip of the bullet head, it is totally harmless as it stands but you would not want to be on the receiving end of one of these. When I was a kid I would to go to the shooting range to collect them, I'd then melt the lead and make fishing sinkers. You'd be amazed at how many Kg of lead I got that way.

It's amazing what people used to for themselves in the old days. My dad and I would go where they were tearing down ol houses and retrieve the old lead pipes, then take them home and cut them in small pieces so we could melt them down and make sinkers out of them just like you did. Small world.

Yes but you would get a lot more sinkers out of a piece of pipe than I would have with a 100 bullet heads  Grin of course you'll say that it would depend on the length of the pipe but just the U pipe that sits just under the zinc would have been good for quite a lot of sinkers.

We always had plenty.  My dad would also give them to his brother and his family, and his brother would cram us all into his old model A pickup and take us to the river for a day of fishing. WWII had a lot of spinoffs and recycling was one of them.

I love recycling I do it all the time,  I save a bundle and I get to do things that would not normally come to mind.

Cool Xavier. I'm with you on that one.  One man's trash sure can be another man's treasure.

The sole purpose of the bullet you found is to increase the stopping power of the round.   And quite frankly, if your object is not to stop the threat as quickly and efficiently as possible (or to kill the animal as quickly and as relatively painlessly as possible if your reason for firing the round is to put meat on the table), then why the heck are you even bothering to fire the round  (although if you're using this round to harvest a small animal, you're probably going to waste a whole lot of otherwise edible protien, assuming you even manage to hit the target).  If all you are interested in is sport and/or proving your proficiency at putting rounds into a set target at a known range, go to an established gun range and use a round with different impact characteristics than this round has.

I agree 100% BA. Fortunately that bullet was un-fired because there were no rifling marks on it. This type of tip was meant to really mess up the target. Imagine the size of the hole coming out the other side. Shocked
