found at a civil war site in Hartsville Tn. what could it be? any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

I found something similar to these round objects (except completely smooth) while hiking in SW PA. It seemed odd to find it in such a remote area...literally on a goat trail high up on a cliff. I kept it and forgot about it.  I'm going to keep an eye on this thread in case anyone comes up with an answer. As soon as I dig it out of my gear, I'll post a pic.

I could see some letters on there.   A rubbing would bring them out.   I'm thinking a Lead Seal.

Those kids of lead seals were used on cloth and cotton bales as well.
I wouldn't know the era for sure but I'd assume civil war or so.

I'm still waiting to find some relics from the abandoned rail road lines in my town which date back to the mid 1800s. This post gives me a little hope : ) great find.!
