OK... I dug this up last weekend about a 1/4 of a block away from an old Confederate hospital in East Texas.

When I dug it up it was just a hunk the size of a half of a baseball or so.

I tapped the crud off of it and started electrolysis.

The thing is.... I dont see any screw holes or where old posts might have been if it was a part of an old lock.

Heres the pic.

It looks like one of those links that locks chain links so you can adjust the lenth of a chain

Its 2 and 13/16's of a Stanley tape measure...and I'm going with some sort of chain like pulling device?

That was one thought I had as well... some sort of chain item....

I did forget to mention that one side is flat... and the top side has rounded edges.
