Go Up Go Down

Hi, I am new to metal detecting.  My kids and I were hunting in the backyard today and came across an interesting find about 8-10" down.  It felt heavy for its size, so I thought it was probably made of lead.  It looks like it could be a musket ball of some sort, but I'm not really sure.  Its not exactly round, but more of a strawberry-type shape.  It weighs 7.8 grams and its widest point is not quite as large as the diameter of a dime.  We live about 20 miles north of Raleigh, NC and I'm not sure if there were any military movements or skirmishes around here in the past.  Any ideas what this could be?  Thanks!!!

Are you sure that it is lead? I have found a few musket ball and grape shot but they do not resemble what you have found, still could be though hard to tell from the photo that you have posted perhaps a closeup could help to identify it.

Regards

Looks like it has a hole thru it. I say fishing or net weight.
