	MYSTERY RING FOUND IN OLD SWIMMING BEACH « on: January 04, 2012, 11:14:59 AM »

A number of years, ago, I dredged this ring from an old, closed, swimming beach. The winged propeller almost looks like some sort of Air Force insignia but it is an adjustable ring. It appears to be made of a bronze or copper metal. Does anyone have a clue as to what it is?

That Insignia is used by the Army Aviation branch established as a basic branch of the Army effective 12 April 1983.

It has been used much earlier then that.

Except for the metal and the fact that your ring is adjustable, the ring appear identical to WWII era Army Air Corps pilot rings. (those were silver). Need to do more research, but possibly it was for a spouse/girlfriend or child or a non-officer air crew member. It's also possible that the "adjustable" feature was an aftermarket cut-down.

Being adjustable, would make me think that it is given to the children of serving members, like the Navy do, for the children of active members.

Maybe its a toy ring that may have been handed out when boarding a plane. When I was young the pilot would always pass out a small trinket or pin, to the children as we boarded the flight. ??

In Australia the first time you flew they took you to the cockpit, and the pilot gave you a TAA ( the name of the airline ) badge with one wing, and the second time he gave you, one with two and then you had your wings. Kids dont get anything like that now. gee how the world has changed.

While that is a possibility, I don't think so. It is too close to the Official Army Air Corps insignia. I think the explanation of it being a gift from a serving member to a family member is probably the answer.
