Searcherman,  you have quite a way of introducing yourself to the forum, don't you?

It's a Civil War era cavalry button (A = artillery, C = cavalry, D = Dragoons, I = infantry, ).   I'll let the members with more experience tell you whether they think it is genuine or not  and whether they think it is a cuff button, a blouse button, or an overcoat button.   in the meantime here's a url where you can see more examples
