This seems to be a solid chunk of metal. Wonder if it could be a meteorite?

It could be a meterorite or just a big chunk of metal.  To be a metal meteorite, it would have to be made of iron or iron+nickel. Assume you found this while hunting with your metal detector.   Check to see if a magnet is attracted to it.  If it is, then the nickel test would be next.  There's a ton of websites on meteorites, including how to test them and where to test them.   Good luck!

Its not a meteorite I read where you should be able to hammer on it and it should be pretty much indestructible mine cracked open pretty easy.

For help with meteorites may I recommend the videos by Mr.Meteorite himself. We would need some more photos to determine if it is an actual meteorite. Usually meteorites have a lot of pressure cracks.

I was just chatting with Ruben on the phone.

He has some really good info vids on this youtube page.

I can tell you another way it's not a meteorite. Look near the top, approx. centre. See the round circle with a round centre? Meteorites do not have that. I'll leave it to you to search for why that is and along the way you'll learn about meteorites  Smiley

Cheers,
Barb

The is a good site for learning:

I looked at every one of the photos, and read the info, and a couple of them even stumped me:
