This will probably be an easy one for you farm lads. O.K. it was just me and the grandboys tonight so we went to the trusty park. The women are busy partying. Wedding stuff.

It looks like tack or harness related to me. I drove my car under it to give it a sense of scale. Actually a little over three inches across.

 These are called push pins.
Pictured below are many versions.

balllock-t lock pin

L-handle

Push Button Pivot Pin or take down pin

Vlier-LOCK-B

Vlier-LOCK-T

They one you pictured is the most common type. The Navy used alot of these. Also they are used a lot in industry. The tip has a spring loaded ball bearing that keeps the pin from just falling out.

That is not a lynch pin. lynch pins do not have an eye on the end. That is half of a horse (snaffle)bit.

Thanks guys.

Taz: That is the winner! I knew I had seen it before but could not place it. Maize is an old community, over 100 years old now. there is still a hitching post or two along the older streets.
