Nice pic, it does look like an older one maybe but I'm not real good with that sometimes.  Dean or Christian may be able to give some insight on it as I've seen them post about buckles before.  Good luck.

Well it kinda looks a bit like a Musket sling buckle..not sure, but it's the correct size and I have seen a couple that are close in design to it.

A sling is the leather strap on a musket that allows you to carry it over your shoulder..the bukle aloowed you to lenghten or shorten the sling.
