Nice theory Rattlesnake. But the guy who said its for wax seals may be closer than the rest. It did remind me of a conan movie. It is probably a reproduction of another ring. It may not be silver, might want to see if its another metal. Good luck.

If you get some aluminum foil ( the stuff used for cooking ) place the ring in it then spit on it and rub it it will clean it and if it is silver
it will smell like rotten eggs ( sulphur ) and as i said it's good for cleaning silver
