Hi folks, I found this a few weeks back in Westfield East Sussex. Could anyone help me identify it please? I think it's didius julianus? Also I've not been too keen to poke at it very much but any tips welcome!

Hi there, and thank you. Sorry for the late rely!
I've not touched it any more, its very fragile to clean so I'm waiting until I learn how best to deal with it. Probably best as I'm not doing any more harm that way.
There are some chemicals I need apparently but can't remember the name right now (for treating bronze disease) but are not available by post/on-line....so its a long drive to the detector shop to get them!

When I found my "Roman coins" they were in the same shape as yours.
All the fertilizer in the ground really chews them up.
I soaked mine in olive oil for over a week and some of the detail started to show.

Thanks for the tip Bowbender, I have put a couple of crusty bronze coins in some olive oil and see what happens 😀 if all goes well I'll try the roman coin.
I would have thought I'd have turned up another one by now but nothing yet.. Waiting for permission on some new land so I'll keep you posted
