Sorry ,I thought everyone was aware of Ferrous & non Ferrous metals
And the better detectors can discriminate between the two.I don't dig any iron, cast
cast or not cast. Also I'm pretty sure that in the 20th century they had
Progressed a little from using copper ore to manufacture any machine parts.
Now another thing is , I found it in a field 2  km from the nearest village so no looms
or cloth factory's,ie the middle of nowhere.another pointer is it was within 25 metres of the other 2 items
I have posted.(medieval coins & latest finds) the coin being 500 years old and the other unidentyfied
item having Wild boar and a Knights helmet on it. These are my reasons to believe that this is a very old piece, but
Everyone is entitled to there opinion and to have a laugh at posts if they so wish,
For those who are genuinely interested, The find is with the museum Finds Liason Officer for research and when I receive her report I will post it. Regards from the UK. Rider

molecat,  chill out most of us are just guessing because it is very old and none of us have seen one before, so what ever ideas folks come up with can be crossed off the list

It looks like some sort of key but to what who knows, perhaps a historian would know better

Molecat, AU is right.  You need to chill out.  We weren't making fun of the find and we do know the difference between ferrous and nonferrous (and are aware that even today there are applications where nonferrous is preferable).  We were honestly curious.   AND we're looking forward to the results of the investigation.  I hope you are right and that it is at least medieval.  But it doesn't change the fact that based on the initial post and the photo people could have questions.

I must have missed the post you refer to.     Smiley

OK, it not Magnetic.

These photo's are much better then the last!

I see no machine marks other then what would be done on any Cast Item like it is to clean up the Spooge in the cast.

Notice they did not clean up the Loop.

It's obviously a pin to hold some thing.

It has the Ring to be pulled.

It has the Stop Edges to keep it from going in too fare.  Flat like to fit a Belt near the body.

In the first photo I can see that it is Brass in nature.

Before I just seen the colors of Iron and Castings.

It is still looking like a Clevis Pin for some thing.

Small it is.

The Clevis for a Sward Belt?

Two Part Scapula?

At this point I have No Idea!

Just going with what I see.

I will be looking any place I can to see what I can.

Some lonesome Brain Cells keep telling me I've see one before.

OK! Don't be making fun of me here.

I think it could be the Clevis Pin for a Scapula.

Some what like the first photo.

Your going to love the second one.
