I found this silver pendant  some time ago, I think American, 1940s.
if anyone has any information about what it represents, I'm interested!

It is definitely American.   Just guessing based on what you say is on the back (praying virgin), it is a religious medallion for an American Soldier.   (Officially, the Eagle with shield facing the talons holding the arrows is used during time of war...The eagle faces the olive branches during time of peace, but since this is based on the official shield and not an exact representation, that does not necessarily apply here.)
