I found these rock carvings today in a canyon. What do you think they mean?

   The first I can't make out.   The second looks sorta like a Petrograph of a horned Critter of some sort.

The first photo appears to be a heart and I can't make out the second one. There is a matching heart nearby too.

Seriously cool.  picture #2 shows injuries to the rock, can you identify from where it broke away from the main piece (did it fall from above?), if you can identify where it started from - that area may hold a clue about the markings (like if the markings were from something existing in the area where the rock was before it broke off)

callen;
      The first photo appears to be an animal head. But what has my attention is all the damage done
by someone wielding a hammer and chisel as if to erase some critical marks. If you look at your upper left side,
the entire area has been knocked off. I would check to see if any of the fragments can be found and if marks are visible.

      The second photo is a cow head for sure. What interests me is the hole to the right. It looks like an owl.
       I would take a serious second look at this site.

Funny how we all see different things, isn't it!  First picture, I saw a snake.  Second picture I couldn't make out anything except maybe another snake.  Went back an looked again and still saw a snake in the first, then looked again at the second and saw the cow's head!
