Silver is silver-white , it will react with sulfur in the air and turn dark gray to black. You could check its specific gravity, the specific gravity of silver is 10.5. If it is alloyed with other lesser metals the SG will be a bit lower. With noble metals, gold platinum, it will be a bit higher. Its hardness 2.5-3, lead is 1.5 which is much softer. Lead will melt with a soldering iron or propane torch, 620F, silver will not1762F. There are simple chemical tests using acid, but I will leave that for you to find. Most metal detectors are designed to report on coin sizes and shapes and then are only 70-80 percent right on a good day, so dont put to much on what it says.
