There are a few things you can do to clean it without damaging it. A dry, soft brush can clean off some of the dirt and a soak in olive oil will soften crusted mud without damaging a coin.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Pay mind that Olive oil has acids in it.

If it was my coin I would touch it with nothing more then Distilled water and a soft paint brush.
Any Stroke Marks will show it's been cleaned.

Some Folks find coins like that and Just rub off the Mud with there fingers and thumb marking them knocking down the value buy marking them with lines .

Do like the Fishers Did soak and wait.

You have the Rest of your life starting today.

Olive oil is good on some Bronze and Coppers but can raise havoc on some Types.

Bottom line is it's your coin .
