I found this ring at an old orchard by my house. I pretty sure its made out of copper and might have been gold plated at one point. It kinda looks like something out of a toy jewelry machine but it weighs almost an ounce. Its 2 inches across and about 1 and 3/4 inches tall. if anyone knows anything about it please let me know.
Thanks BW

Well that makes a little more sense. I thought the prongs on the back used to round but were smashed flat from being buried. thanks for the info. I will have to look into it a bit further.

specifically,  it's a Cub Scout neckerchief slide.  Cub Scouts being the Boy Scout program for kids between 7 and 11 (it was 8 to 11 when I was in).  The neckerchief is the bandanna like triangular piece of clothe (meant to be of use as a sling, bandage, dust mask, etc in the old days) they wear around their necks as part of the uniform.   The slide is what holds it in place.  The one you found is an official part of the uniform, but lots of scouts make (or at least use to make) their own custom slides.

The blue diamond was the official slide for most of the history of cub scouting, but is apparently no longer used.

Cache, yours is a Webelos neckerchief slide.  Inthe old days at least, it was a transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scout.

Things have changed a lot.   For over 30 years, it was Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Lion, Webelos (ages 8 through 11 inclusive).    Then they got rid of the Lions, then they did away with Bobcats and let 7 year olds in ans Tiger Cubs.   Now they've been doing pilot programs for the last couple of years to let kids as young as 5 participate....and their calling them "Lion" cubs, so what was once the most senior, is now the most junior.  Smiley

By the way, Cache, in the picture where you have the neckerchief slide face up, you have it upside down.  It's supposed to be a fleur-de-lis.
