I would guess someone Nailed something to the Tree?

Oh Wait!

Was the Nail heading South or North?

North Means go North.

If the Nail was half ways in and was a 4" nail you should go 20ft.

If the Nail head was bent God Help ya. there is a Gas or Bomb Trap ahead.

Be Sure to only dig 2ft down or Ka Boom.

What kind of nail? A square nail means something different than a round nail with a large head. Can we have a picture?
