Someone melted some metal, then hammered a stamp into it

Yeah we know how it is done. Still say molded till I see the other side and a better picture.

Hard to believe the Padres would have camped so far away from the soldiers in those days.  Indians could easily have wiped out this small unarmed unit.  As to the coin type object, is that a P or perhaps a B ?
