Go Up Go Down

Hi guys I found this yesterday at the site of an 1800's boarding house barn, it is hand forged and the ends have an opposite cut as though it may have been designed to be hammered back to itself like a chain repair link. This barn was a stopping over point on the way to the mines and I also found a lot of stuff related to logging. The only thing I could think of is maybe a clip on a horse harness? It is about 7" across

Heh, I tried a quick image search with google, it came back with an airplane.  Were there markings on the flat portion?  Maybe it was a label of some kind (big shot in the dark there, but i'm baffled by it)  Good luck in your search man Smiley

Yeah I dont think it would fly very well  Grin too heavy, no markings of any sort, handmade for sure. I can take some more pics with my macro setup and upload, just much easier with my cell phone.

I think you got it, In the back of my mind I was thinking I had seen something similar in the past on a harness. But I dont think this one wore through, maybe it was made as a replacement for a worn out one or it was never bent and welded together. the two ends where the chain would attach are cut opposite so if it were bent together they would line up perfectly. Thank you for solving this mystery.  Smiley

Thinking it is more likely a very corroded/distorted stirrup?

Could be a Stirrup!.   Cool

I'm more incline to think =  Some Horse tack or Wagon fittings.

Im pretty sure taz is right on the money with the wiffletree, if it were bent together it is a perfect match

Don't believe the construction is heavy enough for a wiffletree, still leaning towards a stirrup?
