Also would make lots of sense!

Mystery solved, I'd say!  Wink

Thanks for letting us know John!

Looks like an oxen yoke ring ta me, but according to John, I'm probably wrong.
After all... mine is twice as big as yours, planohunter.
Here's a picture of the type I found (but it's standing "umop ep!sdn" (upside down).
The ring itself is at least 8 inches across.

AS SMALL AS THE PART THE RING IS HOOKED TO LOOKS MORE LIKE THE END OFF A WAGON OR CART SHAFT. WHERE THE SHAFT HOOKED TO THE HORSES COLLAR.

John is right. That's the end of a single tree. The ring on each end of the single tree was hooked to the horse's harness and the center ring was hooked to the tongue of a wagon, planter, mowing machine, etc. I have had single trees and used them when I was a young man. They were used from the 1700's up until the 1950's. The Amish and Mennonites still use them. Nice historical find!

I have a single tree that has ends much like the one shown and about the same size. I use it to dress out deer, a hind leg is attached to each end and then the deer is hoisted up by the center ring. Works great. Smiley

I'VE NEVER SEEN A SINGLE TREE WITH RINGS ON THE ENDS. JUST THE MIDDLE. THE ONES I'VE SEEN HAD HOOKS ON THE ENDS SO THE TRACE CHAINS COULD BE LENGTHENED OR SHORTENED AS NEEDED.

I think you are right Briar. I just went to look at one I have and it has hooks on the end. Oh well, its been a long time since I have used them.  Smiley
