What do you all think this is? I found it approx 6 inches down, its not magnetic, weighs about a lb., placed it in Hydrogen Peroxide and it fizzed for 3 hours until I took it out. Any ideas?

Here's a better pic. I found it in my backyard, home was built in 1867, middle of town so no industry in this location. Former swamp 20 years before the home was built. Southwest Ohio no known mineral deposits to my knowledge.

Where were the nearest blacksmith and railroad?  I'm betting on "slag" or some other byproduct of either working iron or having a piece of metal get in a boiler fire.

I find alot of that around here, in the old days people used alot of lead and melted it down at home to make things. I'm not sure but I think thats why I find so much of it here. I got permission to search one old 1880's home in town and it had so much of that in the yard that I gave up searching it. Usually I find a piece here and there and not a mess of it all over like that. Also in the old days everyone had a burn hole that they thru there garbage in and set on fire once in awhile. When I was a kid we had one for about 7 years, then buried that one and made a new one. I would imagind the "in town" people only had one because of limited space on their property. Ive found some good stuff in and near these old burn holes. Dont feed it to children or elderly folks lol

given how close you are to the railroad, I lean toward railroad slag (although lead waste/slag is a possibility).   If you can cutoff a small piece fairly easily and it melts at fairly low temperature then go with Vision's answer of lead.
