Found this awhile back and almost forgot about it.
Non ferrous.
About 15 grams compared to a silver Kennedy half 12gr.
A scratch test showed it to be about the same hardness as silver.
I don't have nitric acid or selsun blue.
Any other home test tricks?
I don't think it could be a meteorite.

Oh yea...I didn't heat it up red hot No no! I put my hand over the flash.
I'm not going use that Nikon any more. The Canon HD video cam takes WAY better close ups AND IN FOCUS Shocked

have you tried rubbing it on aluminum foil to see if it gives off a rotten egg smell? If its silver it will.

Lead was what I thought too at first, but it's almost always whiteish and this was not at all.
If it was lead, I should be able to cut it with a knife, but no way.
Used a high speed die grinder cutoff wheel to cut the flat surface, sanded it and scratched it with a screwdriver but silver won't scratch it and it won't scratch silver...
Just tried the foil test back to back with a silver dime...no difference Shocked...might be silver?? hmmm

If you can do a streak test, and determine it's specific gravity, this table may help you narrow it down:

I'm 99% sure it's aluminium slag from a campfire, found quite a bit of it in years past, identical to yours. Silver? Hopefully next time! Cheers, E

Guess you didn't read my first post?Huh? Shocked
Absolutely NOT aluminum at 15 grams!! No no!
Melted beer can blobs weigh about half of this...I've compared them.
If nothing else smells like that when rubbed on aluminum, it's got to be silver.
I'm going to look into some local history and see if a house was once on this park property that burned down.
I might just try melting it and see if it cleans up by dropping it in water while molten.

Here is the original post where Homefire first told us about selsun blue turning silver a very cool shade of blue.
