I found this hardware on the site where an old one room school house once existed. It is worn at the bottom like it once had a 3/8 t0 1/2" rope running through it. The top is worn like it may have had a 1/2' leather strap running through it. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thank You!

My first guess would be ...Rein guide for a horse or mule.

Welcome G_Money.   I have to say I agree with homefire.   By the way, why don't you tell us a bit about yourself.

Those items go on a bridle for use with a gag bit. They are called different things by some people, rein guides ,check line guides, gag loops , gag swivels and  gag hooks .But they are gag runners. The check lines run from the gag bit up through the gag runners [top of bridle]back to the harness. They keep the animal from running or moving its head too much by pulling on the gag bit. Used for driving with a harness, not when riding.
There are many styles as you can see in the patents link.
