I was gonna start off building a detector with my son but have decided to buy a coinmaster pro to start with.
Maybe later to build it.

My question is if I buy the CM why cant you change out different coils besides the $149 coil or the prizm coils.
Is it because of the connectors(physical and electronic)?

There may be no reason it can't be done but those odds are very, very slim. It's very rare that you can interchange coils between models due to a lot of factors.

Most detectors operate on unique frequencies and the coil is part of the circuit that generates them.
Most coils have a unique inductance.
Most detectors use unique connectors and even if they are the same, may be wired differently.
Some coils have active components in them that make it impossible to use an aftermarket coil.

While it is possible that you can find a coil to use on that machine, the odds are stacked against you.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
