What mods and improvements have you done to your Classic III.  Overall what do you think about the Classic III VS newer entry level machines ?

I've been using a classic III for a few years. It's my first and only detector. My only complaint is that I haven't been able to go very deep maybe 6-12 inches ususally in sand. Also you have to rely totally on sound, no meters to tell me what it could be and how deep. I very interested in hearing what everyone has to say because my wife promised me a new detector this month for my birthday.
