Hey Jim,
I used it for water hunting in fresh water beach areas with the hip mount, i took a flexable tube to make the hip mount extension conection water proof by filling in each end with clear silicone seal. With the blue box i had an innertube with a piece of canvas over the middle of it and take a couple small bungee cords and attach it to the box. Then go wading with my stainless scoop, Myself and a friend of mine did this back in the late 70's. If it was going to rain the day we planned to go we use to bring a clear plastic bag(heavy duty)and put the box in it and where the cord came out duct tape it good right down to the cord. I really didnt like this cause of the dampness. But it did work, and didnt have to change much on the settings, just hit the rest-button on the handle. I would dig everything that gave me a signal anyway, especially in the water, small gold and  gold chains would be the slightest signal.
So thats the water story, now i use a Whites Surfmaster II, a great machine for the fresh water i hunt, but my blue box is still here if i ever need it....DW

Yep, I recall seeing photo's of the similar surf set-ups like you did with the innertube floats, like back in (Kip Wagner's) days with the 1715 pieces of eight!

lol, this brings back some good old memories!

Cheers,  Great
Jim

You got a great deal.  The White's 6DB's were built like tanks and to last a lifetime.  $30 bucks is an absolute steal, if it works.  Good Going!

I finally got the machine picked up. It seems to be in decent shape with the exception of the batteries which need to be replaced. It had the hard case, paperwork and all the pieces. I was told radio shack has a replacement batterypack that will work to replace the old ones. It did come with the original dual charger pack. Any suggestions on the battery issue would be appreciated.

I've got some basic wiring experience, but the other guys would know more about these issues than I do.

Clean the battery holder contacts and the inner battery compartment contact points, then toss in some fresh batteries and switch her on and see what happens. If you don't see or hear the battery test run or the needle move or hear no sound, well then there's more than likely a wire issue going to the CB or possibly a soldering contact that might be dislodged....These boxes open up pretty easy to expose the control board and inner wiring, so you really can work on these fairly easy IMO.
(When you put the battery pack in, make sure that it's making good snug contact)

I hope she powers up for you when your ready to give her a dry run...

Good luck,  Great
Jim

Looks like you have the old re-charge packs, i had them but they were so old they didnt hold a charge anymore, so i found the regular packs i bought from Kellyco years ago. Try to charge them up see if they work if not contact Whites and see if they have any regular packs for it, Good Luck With your new machine.....DW

I have a chance to get one of these units locally.

What frequency do these machines operate at?

Thanks
