What type of battery are you using? Rechargeables are not as good as alkaline batteries.

Give us the scoop. How many cells? Each cell is rated at what Mah?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I would open it up, turn it on and see if I could Feel any components getting warm. Cool

Electrolytic Caps of that age like to go short.

You're right homefire. The repair center aint got no parts for them anymore as had 2 the other day and trashed them no chips etc for them.  Same with some older Garretts BFO's shortribs

unless it’s a white’s proprietary part, like the processor, then you should be able to get the rest from the free market.
even if it’s a discontinued part you should be able to tract it down.
why don’t you ask the repair center to tell you what is the problem, they may be do that if they cant do the repair themselves, then you can  repair it yourself or perhaps someone that knows about those things, like a TV repair guy.
a good sorce for parts its Futurlec.
you know all the www then  Futurlec dot  com
they will ship anywhere in the world. Try them
Any way the eagle runs on 4x c size batteries. In the white battery container.
6 volt, if Alkalines or 4.8v if you use rechargebles. if you are expecting 9 volts or using 9 volts to start with you are wrong.
I had an eagle and still have a spectrum. they used to drain the batteries quickly.
My solution. I put  together three lots of four in series  AA 2300 mAh Ni-MH batteries in parallel .i can detect for 5-6 hours no problem
Good luck
