I have an older Schonstedt that I used to use at work, it's a yellow box with a long pipe on it. Model numbre has been worn off for a while now. I want to get into the hobby but don't think this is useful, it only has sound but I have found jewelery with it by accident. Any tips?

PJ

Most who use a detector rely on sound. Some like the video game screens but the proof is always in the audio to a good many of us. Your machine is a high end cable locator. They're not inexpensive. You might sell yours on eBay and buy one made for more delicate locating.

GD  has made a very good suggestion-yours would probably bring a very good price on EBay, then you'd be all set for a detector that  you could use and be more practical, almost all the major mfgs make what they call entry level (i hate that term), detectors that don't have all the bells and whistles, or cost a fortune- so unload what u got and go shopping Detecting

Thanks for the info, is there a buy, sell or trade area on here? Ebay sometimes scares me.

There is one but eBay protects the seller better than the buyer. All you have to do is send it by registered mail or by UPS with signature required and you're covered. PayPal makes taking money quite easy and safe. You'd have a limited audience here of people who would rather have a coin or gold detector than a pipe locator. When you use eBay, you get a wider cross section of buyers, some of whom may be plumbers, electricians or telephone installers in need of your machine.

I agree with golddigger... You should be fine using E-Bay to sell your pipe locator...
