The GMT or the GMZ is fast becoming #2 or #3. I'm leaning toward a Garrett Infinium for being a pulse induction detector for reasonable money.

So GMT is one of the top VLF nugget hunters then, right? Is it better than a Garrett Scorpion or a Fisher Gold Bug/Gold Bug II?

I think any the GMT, Scorpion, GB, or GB2 are pretty close to each other. They all are vlf detectors. I'm gonna put the GMT on my future list if the Infinium doesn't work out, only because it is a higher frequency VLF. We talked with a guy at a GPAA outing using a GB2 and it wasn't picking up know gold in a concentrates pan but I know it found gold other times.  I'd go to some outtings and ask folks near where you'll be doing your detecting and see what is working for them.  These MD are a lot more than a few bucks and I. for one, can't keep buying ones that don't meet my needs.

Go Up Go Down

Aloha guys,

My Gmt with the goldmax coil has worked great for me. Ever since I "learned" how to correctly use the big coil I have not even bothered to put my stock coil in the bag when I go out into the field. First rule of any detector is the carefully read the instructions (yeah I know how boring it is) once you get the basic down you really need to go out and practice a LOT! Train your ears to distinguish the different sounds (make sure you have diferent size throw downs) and of course practice with them a LOT! I cannot emphasize the practice part. At first I thought is was all BS but hot dang after a while I started to find more in less time out in the field. Your ears (once trained) will actually tell your brain when you have found a good signal.
Of course I have now gotten a minelab sd2200d and it looks like I am going to have to start all over again with the PI version and am looking forward to finding even more stuff out there.
Good luck with your choice and remember to practice, practice and practice some more. it pays off in the long run.

Aloha and be safe out there.
Stan aka Ka'imi
