I have a DFx with the 9.5 inch coil and pinpoint has never been a problem.  Are you pinpointing in a X?   I also have the 10"dd coil and the center is right under the "nut" on the coil.   Maybe the center is  under the nut with the 300 coil as well.   Are you digging in soil or sand?

Hello. I own a DFX and pin pointing was a problem for me too at first. I learned to cross out and dig. Sometimes I still dig a wide hole before finding the object. Long targets like nails and wire still give me problems at times but they are usually just off to one side or the other. Wet soil conditions also give me problems. Until I learn more and become "experienced" I like to keep in mind that the machine detects. It's up to me to locate.

It takes a lot of practice to pin point, some are more difficult depending on the position of the coin. I bought a cheap pin - pointer at Harbor Freight($14.95) 2 years ago and it still works great....DW
