It will damage the unit. Who told you to think about that?

Even if it would not toast your machine , it would not provide noticeable Depth. Cool

Thanks for the reply. The idea about suppling 18 volts to the coil came from me. I do believe that the pc board and coil will handle the extra voltage in the excalibur 11 but don't want to risk doing that unless i know what the outcome would be a plus with a couple of benifits..whitewater

The coil is an AC device and adding DC will just burn it out if you add too much. Leave it alone. If you are looking for extra depth, use the computer. The one between your headphones.

LOOK Up Demished Returns.

Light is only 1/4 as bright hitting a object when it gets there.

Now it has to make the Return Trip.

If you have 4 lights of the same shining you will only see 1/8th more.

You will find it takes a Pile more to see any Defference. Cool

Homefire, if you put a DC current on a coil, you create a heater - not a transmitter.

Thanks for all your feedback on this topic.I will leave this unit alone and use it as it was intended.i have been M.D. for just 1-1/2 years and the excalibur is the only detector i have every owned. My time is spent 100 percent on the jersey shore and have been very lucky to have found lots of old coins and jewelry.Have read about pulse machines going deeper but lack definition. I guess i would like to try another unit that can get down deeper in wet and dry sand.Any suggestions would help a new comer like me.

I am sure that there is a voltage regulator in the mix.
So...If you place a higher voltage on the battery terminals that regulator
will throttle it down to the necessary voltage the detector circuits need to 'properly' operate.

It's like this, if you strap a jet engine on a Mercedes, it will shake the sh// out of the Mercedes and you will end up getting no-where - old chinese proverb  Cheesy
