Yes, dfinately a Whites. Looks like an early Whites Beachcomber from the '70s. I think it is a VLF machine. Nice collectable detector.

Well, thanks for the links !

I spent six hours on the beach here, sweeping this unit, and found over 30 coins and a silver bracelet.

It works fine, I will just have to buy a better headphone set, to hear the subtle differences in the signals.

It's a good discriminator, athough it loses some depth when discing out iron and foil.

Nice unit !

Me Too!

Receive a Cool Oldie from a member on another forum the other day.  It pays to beg!

This one is most Coooooool!

Whites BeachComber! 7 whole Transistors!

After two hours and a few beers, I figured out what was wrong to the stupid thing!

First thing I noticed that it was working but no sound.

After a hour, I got it apart Oh what fun. Only broke four wire getting it open.

It was glued as well as screws!

Figuring that the audio amp was Ka Put, I got out the heavy test gear. A set of head phones with alligator clips! Ha!

Starting at the volume control like any good radio, TV man would do, I found nothing. Dang!

All solder joints in this thing look like someone from 6th grade did em!

Cold, Stingers, Just Nasty. Time for a Beer!

Started over again.

Transmit was good.

De mod section Good.

Receiver was working and could see my weding ring out to 6"......Dang that's good.

The thing only has seven transistors, How complicated could it be?Huh??

45 cuss words and another beer, I noticed the head phone jack.

Plugged some in. Hot Dang it was working.

Following the sound to the speakers, Nothing.

The Stupid Speaker was Dead. First time I checked the leg on the speaker, I must have been on the other side of the open!

Time for a beer!

Hunting all my Keen Junk for a replacement speaker didn't work. I had one 3", 5" 7" and no 2.5"!!!!! Dang!

Seen a old set of computer speakers in the junk Pile.

Hot Dang, Found what I needed.

Well, got it up! Got it Running, Got it back together Too!

Cool machine. Tot Lot Test tomorrow!

i live in the UK, but can remember my local detecting shop closing down in 1981, he was a savo dealer and was discounting stock to get rid, the model you have was for sale then, i bought a beachcomber 60 something as i did not have enough cash on me to buy the better models. they were good machines in there day. i remember digging 1000's of modern coins of the local beach and parks. think savo became whites in about 1983
