Vintage SAVO Electronics

This was some of the first metal detectors made by SAVO Electronics. White's would send us sub-assemblies, then we finished putting them together, tested and shipped to countires outside the uS. This was cheaper than shipping whole boxes from Sweet Home Oregon. Eventually we made modifications and manufactured from the components up, under license, and sold under our own brand.

We did not renew after 1982 and Whites ran the Scotland factory for awhile. I went back last year and the building is cut up into several small businesses, I guess Whites now ships all from the US or does not sell abroad...

I believe the original Beachcombers were TR machines and only later models switched to VLF.

I remember when I thought those old Whites were the best thing since sliced bread. Back then you could take a detector like that almost anywhere and find lots of keepers.
When those were new, you could take them almost anywhere and find lots of keepers. Times sure have changed.

I use it on regular basis, and it is fun and productive.

I tried it with both 6xAA and 1x9v batteries, both work fine.

Ii will need a bit of refurbishment in the coming months, but I have some other priorities for the moment.

Great unit !

HH

The Beachcomber 4 (there was a letter behind the number but I don't remember what it was) was my second detector. The only difference in the one pictured and the one I had is mine didn't have a meter. It was a good detector for those days (about 1974). That detector is what really got me going in this hobby. I started out with a RS $19.95 detector.  Grin  Post some find photos. Happy Hunting!  Detecting

I just bought 25 old detectors  from an old dealer shedding his detectors, one was the Whites Beachcomber, there were 2 models as mine had the meter.Paid 25$ us dollars for all of  them. got 3 of them going and gave them to detector families that were impoverished (poor). Made my day to help them.salvaged the rest for pots and guages etc,and sold them to Keith wills for his repairs.  Sold the alum. cases to junk for 5 bucks.  Still have 3 A.H. pro's to have fixed or sell some of these days.remember when I went from an BFO to a TR and had disc. on it thought I was in heaven. no more pulltabs!!!!   shortribs. Mo. usa
