Hi Woods
Even the most sofisticated detectors cant discriminate trash from treasure 100%.
Some of our coins are a mix of alluminium and bronze and the fe and co reading are so  close to ring pulltabs its not funny so you just have to dig everything or miss out . Detecting

I read in another post to redetect after you dig up the trash and before you refill the hole just to ensure the valuable piece wasn't underneath the trash.

Hi Del
Thats right after digging mostly trash all day I hit on one signal ,pulled out one coin kept getting more signals thought my detector must be reading mineralisation but I kept digging , ended up digging 4 coins out of one hole 8 ins deep . you just got to hang in there or miss out .

My son has the Prizm III and is going thru the same thing. He has gotten alot better at finding coins as his time out has increased. He's had it about 2 months now and loves the hobby!

The computer in the detector is telling you what it thinks it might be.The software is designed around coin hunting. Save your money and jump up to the M6 or MXT,,,,,,It's a whole different world and the tracking speed will amaze you. I went from a Prizm IV to a MXT. WOW ! What a difference !
You will still get some items wrong,But not as much. sometime a button will show as a coin, or a gold ring will show as a pull tab.

Well, as Aussie has allready said even the most sophistocated detector (e.g. the Minelab eTrac) ist yet NOT able to give a bullet proof indication wheter you found silver or aluminium. These two metal are just to close or better say to hard to distinguis from each other.

So you just have to keep on digging as you might miss some silver otherwise Smiley

Best wishes,

Christian

I'd get the same sort of thing with my P-IV.  It would indicate a half-dollar and turn out to be a squashed can. Angry
