When I got into prospecting 6yrs ago my wife and I bought stingers because of the adds and the price. took them to quartzsite and found lots of junk, boot tack at 10" ,copper bullet jacket at 12" , inch &one quarter gal water pipe at 22". ground balancing is hard but 2 solid days detecting and you will master it.I still have not found a nugget with it. my wife could not master the GB so I bought 2  gmts for us. not as good of depth at all but will sound off on a very small piece of gold on the poker chip that the stinger would not see. I have not found a nugget with the GMT yet. I vac 3 weeks a year at the beach to surf and started taking the stinger with me. what a blast ,I find lots of clad ,no rings yet but having the time of our lives.last summer we were camped at San Clemente SB and there were 3 guys there with detectors, one I could Id as a mxt. I could see them at the crack of dawn shooting the beach were the surf camp hangs out. I found about 34 coins and some bottle caps at the surf camp beach.all my finds were at 10" or better. I guess this stuff was out of there range. I'm getting ready to spend a week at Quartzsite and I will take the stinger along with my GMT and maybe I will find my first nugget. I just need to find a spot where no one has been because thousands of snowbirds with detectors i think have cleaned out the easy areas.  Mike

Hi Moondog, out of the hi frequency VLFs the GMT is the deepist of all the Gold prospecting machines, it's not as good on the

specks of gold that the GB II , but it does go deeper and out of the three, but it will find gold down to a 1/10 of a grain so you will have

pan it to separate it and the MXT will see gold down to 3 grains, and the GMT has auto and manual GB

Thank you for replying. Do you need to put a double d coil on your mxt to find gold or is it possible with the stock coils. what I like about the GMT is the follow the pay dirt feature , It helps me find a good spot to run my drywasher.I see your in the United Kingdom, I see lots of posts of people there finding roman gold and artifacts. Here in So Cal we have nothing, not even an old coin to find.   Mike

I Know everyone prefers the double Ds but they do handle the mineralization better and if you go on the Beach it does
quiten down the machine a fair bit,

And yes you can use the standard coil to find gold, the coil most favor is the 6x10 on the MXTs and the smaller one

but i've read that people in AK are buying MXTs with the 300/ 12" coil and are having alot of success and if you want more

info i can give you a few places to look . don't right of the MXT coz it will find gold deeper that the GMT and it has a meter

so you can follow the black sand and there are atleast 16 coils available for it and it will handle the hot ground better

because of it's lower frequency , remember it has the same insides as the GMT and better disc which is why it has many

100s of OZs of gold in AK.

The reason I bought the GMT is the guy that ran promack gold and treasure shop said when he goes out prospecting he can use any brand detector in the shop and he uses a GMT.then he showed me all the gold he had found and I was impressed.   mike

Well moon you done the right thing, it's a friendly machine and it's made in the USA by a good family, and so far they

have always listerned to the man in the street, which is why i sold all my detectors and bought theire,

I like things that work when you need it to and the way it should,

you would cringe if you knew the machines i'd bought and how much i'd spent . your dealer sounds like an honest man

so your off to a good start, WTG

PS, just trust the machine, if you have got the MXT it has a good discimination so learn to trust it and you'll come out on top

Aloha,

One thing most people get wrong on the GMT is they leave it on autotrack once it is ground balanced because they think that in this mode it will work better. NOT!!!! Once you get it ground balanced you need to switch to the manual mode, ground balance it again and go for the target.
I hunt for meteorites all the time and whenever I run into a newbie I see them in autotrack. that gets taken care of right away. I also have them hit the signal boost forward and also hit the iron ID switch forward also. I will sometimes even see them go back to an old target they thought was nothing only to finde a nice specimen.

Owners have got to read the manual and if given the chance, watch the GMT video. Wealth of information out there and it needs to be mined.

Aloha and stay safe this summer.

Stan aka Ka'imi

Well the GBII is good too but i read a report that the GMT will find smaller gold in hotter ground and goes deeper
and with the GMT you get a meter which is a big bonus and you have the two ground meters and an Iron meter
and you get a long battery life too, if you need anymore help just call and i will see what we can do.
