Has anyone tried the RNB Innovations LI-ION 12V Rechargeable Battery System? Works with the MXT. Looks good, however expensive.

I've had two lap top computers with Li-ion batteries.

Both died within 6 months.

Yes there light.

Yes they are rated with serious high Amp Hours ratings.

Yes they DIE when subjected to heat.   Here in the S.W.  USA that's a given.

Yes, I will never have another one.

I know this sounds Archaic but Nothing is better then Lead Acid or good ol NiCd.

This computer is working on my replacement NiCad battery 2 years now.

At first the Li Ion would give me 4 hours of run time.

In three months it went down to 2 hours.

In four months it was 30 minutes.

Replaced with NiCd and it would run for 2.75 hours.

2 years later it runs for 2.50 hours.

NiMh batteries are the same.

Run good for 6 months the crap out.

If let set Idle for two months they will not even take a charge.

Believe me or NOT, this is what I found and I'm back with the so called sorry NiCd batteries.

My Makita Drill came with NiMh batteris.   They would not take a charge after sitting for a month.

Same with my ACER computer.   Yep, Do what ya want.

I'm staying with the Old School NiCd.

All you have to do is run them all the way down after about 10 charges and there happy.

I will have to agree with you Homie on the ni-cads. I use a lot of nicads in 2way radios and of course everything else and the n-cads seem to hold up better in the long run. I have packs that developed shorted cells after a ton of use and after a quick blasts across a power supply... blows the short off and back in business for another year or so. I've run packs for 5 or so years with proper care. I bought a new lithium for my laptop from eBay and the #$%% crapped out already after only 3 recharges!..... Of course that might be a eBay sellers old battery I received.

mudflap & homefire- Interesting, thanks. My time with NiCad bats was much the same and I never did try lithium etc. You have convinced me to keep on using a smaller SLAB which came my way at a reasonable discount. I have tried but never did get much that I didn't pay much for  javascript:void(0); some users, on other forums, are swearing by those newer rechargeables that they paid good $$s for, whatever that "good" means.
If seriously needing to shed weight, perhaps a visit with some local radio control, electric flight enthusiasts could give insights to ecconomic alternatives?

Yep! if The NiCads start to poop out Just HIT them with 200VDC cap spark and it cleans up the shorts.

Funny how  the Old school works some times! :Smiley

I've gotten years of use out of them doing that.

Somewhere around here I left some info on how to use the radio shack RC car nimh or nicad packs to rebuild the White's nicad packs. Runs about $12.
