Surfmaster Dual Field

Go Up Go Down

Well, I think I now have a serious problem - My Dual Field is coming via UPS Ground and I can't wait!  I have been looking at metal detectors for SCUBA diving for about 2 months now.  I'm new to the hobby, I have never ran a Metal Detector before but the idea of finding cool lost items has me fired up!  I dive in Fresh water lakes, rivers and the Great Lakes.  My problem?  I think I am addicted to the hobby and have not even started yet..  Is this a common ailment?  I am looking forword to posting my finds (good and bad).  does anyone have pointers for me with this machine?

Go Up Go Down

Hi. I just bought a Dual Field a few months ago. I have been using VLF detectors all of my life, but finally gave in to PI because of the darn black sand beaches we have here in Southern California. There are several books by Clive James Clynick, one of which is about the Dual Field specifically, that have helped me learn how to use a PI machine with great success on saltwater beaches. He has several books on metal detecting in general as well as books on using specific detectors. I still love my Fisher CZs as they go deep and can discriminate, but this new detector gives me more depth down in the shallow water where most jewelry is often lost. The best advice is to spend a lot of time in the field learning how to use your detector and listening for those faint whispers on deep targets. I have had it for less than 3 months and it has already paid for itself! Good luck with your new detector.

MDT's....that's short for Metal Detector Titus! Detecting

There's no known cure, except for prayer that you will hit some great targets.  Pray

I think you picked the right machine after checking them all out for 2 full months, with all that's out there, making that decision to buy is a hard choice for sure. (The Whites Dual-field P.I. is one heck of a very good machine)

Congrats & as "Seldom" has said, pratice practice and don't give up, keep searching onward & good things will come.

For relaxation & just getting outside with fresh air & some excercise, this hobby is a great hobby that tops many others, with the added enjoyment & thrill of the unknown finds that you could make.

Cheers & Congrats-
Jim

Go Up Go Down

I owned the duel field for about 6 months only working knee deep surf at low tides.

I did alright but not great.

Enough to pay for the unit but a lot of wasted hours digging junk in wet sand.

Even though it went deeper than my sovGt.I still found more with the Sov because I spent more time digging good targets.
I would say at the very least 5 times more than with the Dual field.

I'm still thinking that Minelab will have something new this year to compete with a water proof PI?

Don't get me wrong it's a great detector but plan on digging a lot of junk and make sure you have a strong maginet wired tied to your scoop because it will pick up stuff as small as a buckshot and save you lots of time looking for a ghost.

Good Luck,

JP
