Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 and MPX
« on: March 01, 2012, 12:07:39 pm »
Go Up Go Down

I have an opportunity to purchase one for less than $200.  If this pans out, should I take it?  I have a BH Pioneer 505 and it is not cutting the mustard on the depth any longerl.  I haven't found silver in months and I have been searching for new places endlessly  I know that five more inches of good identifiable depth will payu off and I am hoping that this is the one.

Suggestions?  I have to make a decision quickly though.

That price is a bit high for that machine. I would pass on it and keep looking.

The current price is $140.00 US.  I am talkiing about the Whites and not the Pioneer here.  I would not have thought that the whites would be considered a less than 200 dollar machine?

I have a 6000 Di. If you think you are going to find silver, well maybe a silver ring on the surface. Surprizingly it is good for surface targets at coin hunt contests because it won't go deep enough to pick up much junk.  When new I could get about five inches on a silver dime max.

Thanks TL and Mike, I will be passing on this unit.  I am just in such a excited state of mind when it comes to upgrading my Pioneer 505 that I might do something foolish  That is why I count on guys like you.

There will always be another good deal tomorrow. Teach Crazy.

I have a ten inch coil. Yes, it goes deeper in good ground but it is heavy and will not work well if there is much trash at all. Definitely want a shoulder harness/hip mount  for the detector.

I don't think a 950 coil will work on Series 2 machines. It has to say "6 B" on the ear where the shaft attaches to the coil.

My 2 cents.....The 5000D s were a good machine on silver and seemed to have a knack to find silver dimes. If it is operational it would be a nice and very usable machine. That said.... the price is too high. I wouldn't pay over $75.

Thirty years ago, yes. The modern machines have cleaned out anything that machine can hit now. Unless you can find a virgin area you have about a zero chance of silver coins.

Got to disagree with ya there mate. There is not much depth difference between that machine and the newer ones. I think if you did a test plot with a XLT or DFX on a silver dime at 9" the 5000D would still get you a reading. Doesn't have the display goodies but it could hold it own. Agree with you on many areas being hunted out but your chances of finding silver in a "used" area are the same with most of the current detectors and the 5000D (both using similar loops).....
