What a great machine, but I have a question. And when I ask it I always get 2 different answers. So I will try here, Is the search coil (factory one) water proof ? can I use this in the shallow water ? I have been told yes and no... What say Ye' ?

Great I had one of those and i must say what a piece of remarkable machinery, I used to put mine in the water all the way untill the waves were almost licking the cab !! I never had a leaky coil problem at all, I used to shake the coil after and never heard any water sloshing inside so i always assumed it was fine...

Use Permatex "Flow-able Silicon" on any seems on the coil housing.  Unscrew the stress relieve plug on the coil and run a bead of that stuff there.  That will do it.
