Seems both the DFX and MXT are both great MD.
Question is do you think the DFX is worth the extra $
I don't mind taking the the time to learn the machine for thats part of the fun I think.
However there are times when one needs to turn on there MD and get down to business.
After reading some post here it seems that many people are lost with all the settings on the DFX and are
asking for help.
Does one need to have a masters degree to operrate the DFX or does it just require time and practice?
The MXT seems to be a much simpler machine to learn but doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the DFX.
Is the DFX worth the extra learning curve or should one just stick with the MXT ?

Hopefully you will get a lot of response on this one. I have used the XLT for years and been detecting with all kinds of machines since 72. I just bought a MXT and so far have really liked it. Reminds me of my older analog machines that having experience tweeking the knobs really pays off. With the XLT seems like i spend most of my time experimenting with different settings that provide the same results in just different ways. The XLT has never really screamed deep like the older machines or the MXT. I'm guessing the DFX would be better than the XLT, however, the MXT would be easier to tweek and should run at similar depths as the DFX. Not knocking the DFX. I'm sure some folks love it. Two of the guys I hunt with have the DFX and both like them.

My 10 cents worth...  Wink

I cant comment on the MXTbecause i have not got one
Got the DFX and i must say what a powerful machine, even where i live here in England, when set up they don't come much better.
What i like to do is have a few weeks with the Spectra 3vi, because I'm sure if any of the other Whites machines I have are to go by its going to be a winner.
But time will tell all i need is a kind dealer to loan me one for a couple of weeks  Wink

Actually in my opinion i don't think whites ever made a bad one

All the best on your choice

I have had all of my best finds with my MXTs Which is a shame because of the amount i have spent on other machines
My MXT300 paid for it's self in it's first week and my finds rate has gone through the roof, and it pays to by a machine
that works in the areas you use them and if you want to spend time working on finding settings go with the DFX
If you want to spend your time searching then go with the MXT, the coils are the same and the quality on both machines
are always of a high standard and Whites service is better than any other,
If Whites have made it then it will be the best it can be

Everyones comments are correct here, Its just where i am located here in the UK, We do need those extra settings because of are iron content and different minerals within are soils.
You need to bare in mind, that the Whites machines are designed and built around USA soils, which are very much different.
The XLT is a very good machine I'm sure, although i have never owned one, a little dated now maybe but still a very much used machine .

Most the lads over here use either the Etrac or the Deus for top end machine, they seem to be making the finds, its everyone to there own horse for courses.

When i get another machine i will be looking closely at the Deus and the Spectra 3Vi, there both light weight and well built.
If there on power with each other far as performance here in the UK then i will go for the Whites because of there back up service and warranty.

All the best

Dave the MXT will handle anything the UK can throw at it because i am in the UK and I have used it in the worst places
you can find and also they use them in the worst conditions in Australia, It does'nt matter how Iron infested a site is
they work and work well. Which is why I sold all my other brand machines because i just don't need them,
These machine just do it all better and quicker.

Really are they that good
You seem a honest chap how do you rate it up against the DFX, I presume you have owned  one at some point.
Later I will look at the spec price etc, how do you rate it up against the V3i

Kind regards

Go Up Go Down

Been a few weeks since I posted this thread.Since then I have purchased the MXT and could not
be happier.Au knows what he is talking about when it comes to these MD.
Thanks for all your help AU.....
Have only been able to get out with the mxt a couple times now do to all the rain but each time out
I have found some clad and one silver merc dime.
Each time out I seem to be getting a little more comfy with MXT and at this point I am glad I chose
the MXT.It has not let me go home empty handed yet.The ground will have to dry up sometime and
then I will be able to really get out and put it to the test.......

In the prospecting mode it will smoke the V3i and the DFX because the MXTs are hyper sensitive, they are faster to set up,
the thing with the V3i and the DFX is that you can block edit where on the MXT you can adjust the Disc via a rotory knob.
and you have extra filters which is useful as for depth the V3i will pull coins from 12 to 14" and so will the MXT,
But the V3i will do it with a 10"DD and the MXT Pro does it with the 12/"300 coil, So imagine what the V3i would do
if you put that 12"/300 on it  Pray now thats serious power bordering on PI depth.
The new MXT Pro is very much like the GMT Goldmaster with the ground grab button and it has 7 tone ID, It has 8 hunting modes
And the MXTs are based on the GMT as they were surposed to be the GMT but because of the work Whites engineers did
they had enough to build two machines, the MXT has the same insides as the GMT which is why the MXT it is so hot on gold.
I have seen half pennys come out of the ground beyond a foot down, Power wise theres nothingin it the MXT will equal or better any
machine on the market, dispite what manufactorers say or claim,

Thanks V-Burgh for your kind words, One of the best things about the MXT is that it is half the price of all these all singing
all dancing machines, and they achieve nothing that the MXT cant do with less fuss and less money,
One thing to remember is if you buy the Whites coils always make sure you ask for the V rated coils because they will work
on the V3i and if they are not V rated then if you buy a V3i at a later date they will feed back so to speak and you can not
run the V3i at full power,
