How is the MXT with water?

Specifically, how is it in the rain?  Or for beach hunting in shallow water?

G Day BC, well they are semi water proof and have seals around the meter box and the speaker is made out of mylar
so thats water proof and all the important bits of the control box has seals in it to,
In the UK you can get some very good covers for all the Whites machines and I never use mine with out them on it.

If you get the 300/12" coil you will get some serious depth, it will smoke a 15" DD, and the MXT300 can better any VLF Not forgeting the 300 models were a limited model, and now the MXT Pro is as high tech as a machine would need to be
When I come of a field the finds are either in my pocket or there somewhere else, and I always find something worth the effort
and if you need covers i can give you the address where I got mine

The Mxts have a salt switch so you can run it in salt mode or you can ground balance it in salt and then lock the setting
and they seem to work ok on the beach, some like the 950/300 coils for the beach yey others like the DDs for beach
detecting, hope this helps,

AU

I have an XLT and was considering an MXT prior to moving from California. When I moved and started checking around, I decided to go with the DFX 300. Once you  know the XLT it does not seem like a big leap to learn the DFX (I just bought it and am now reading everything about it). The thing that sold me on the DFX was that it had a dual frequency and was not that much more than the MXT. Furthermore, the website at Whites is offering additional accessories at no extra cost thereby making the DFX 300 and the MXT nearly the same price. I am happy with my DFX 300 and plan on using it many years. However, if you  get a MXT, I am sure you will like it also. I just figured that I am getting an upgrade for the same price and the people that I spoke with prior to the purchase all liked their DFX 300... In any event, good hunting! Coloma Gold

Coloma, these machine are set up right on the boundaries of physics so ther is not much between them.
The DFX can be set up to suit any situation or fine tuned to suit just about all conditions,
where the MXTs have the edge is in prospecting is because of the high Gain/ High Coil Voltage
along with the best ground Tracking system thats been built to Date.
The DFX can be used for prospecting just not for tiny Nuggets, any nuggets about half the size of air gun
pellets or just under it will hold its own, possibly even smaller. the DFX has multipul filters which is great,
every thing on the DFX is still very much needed and theres alot there,
But it was built as a High quality do it all machine and I think it should stay on the product list for a long
time yet, and it can still smoke most detectors, theres only one machine that can better
it and thats its bigger Brother the V3/V3i and that is a whole new thread.

I would like an XLT but due to the lack of coils I wont be getting one,
So I will be chasing the DFX300 and the V3i and all my coils will fit,

V3i is a whole new level (and price tag) that I am not sure I could handle with my experience to date... I'll learn my DFX 300 thoroughly for the mean time... That's like climbing from a BMW into a Ferrari... Coloma Gold

Ridge Rider is right on the money and obviously well versed  with the machines. The MXT is an easier machine to use and extremly hot on gold and works well in heavy mineralized soils like the U.K.  The DFX 300 is a little more complicated but will search deeper and has been known to hit coins recovered at depths of 3 feet.  The V3i is the latest greatest but will take a lot  more time to learn  with all the whistles and bells and is not as easy to run and gun like the MXT. And of course the prices vary greatly from $660 for a new MXT up to $1460 for a V3i w/headset. Bang for the buck the MXT is the way to go.
