Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum and still new to metal detecting, so I look forward to learning more here at thunting.com.

Currently I own a Whites Eagle with an external upgrade module.  I did some bartering and picked it up so I am not really into it for much.  It worked completely fine at first.  Lately I will turn it on, do the ground balance, then the machine will staring beeping like crazy, as if it has found the motherlode.  But it does it all the time, no matter where.  I switched coils with a friend, and still no change.  I have tried it in the country, so no electrical interference.  I pulled the PCB to check the circuit paths and components...nothing burned or smoked.   Club It is about to meet its doom, but I thought I would check with all you folks first.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

If my wife would get a second job, I could afford an MXT and boot the Eagle....She is not impressed with the idea.

Thank you very much for any help!

Copper

When I get home I will take a pic and post it.

The main problem is that keeps "beeping" like it has found something, even when I hold it in the air.  It just keeps "beeping" all the time.

Thanks,

ps i am also curious what you guys think about a new machine.  I like the Whites MXT.  What is a really good all-around detector?

Could this be a frequency shifter?

On a machine that old, you have to ask if it's worth fixing or should you just buy a new one. If the problem can't be diagnosed in a few seconds of visual inspection and troubleshooting, you need a qualified technician. With fees beginning at $80.00 an hour and up, two hours can get you a decent second hand Ace 250.

I have decided that it is not worth paying to fix, but was hoping it was something simple.  Oh well...I guess I will have to put the ol' bird down.  The "Eagle" has landed permanently.  Cry

Don't be hasty about it. You can still hang on to it. In this hobby, you will eventually run across someone with the skills to repair it who lives close by. Alternatively, you could sell it "as-is" on eBay to someone who needs a coil or who can work on it.
