Went to the local prospecting shop and was talked out of buying a gold only machine, I live in utah where we have only fine flour gold, and they said a detector wasn't the best way to go, so i decided to get a multi-purpose machine.
After looking over the deals and web research I decided to get a MXT.
My idea was to use it for finding black sand and mineral streaks in which to look for gold, and doing a little coin shooting\relic hunting.
Any advice would be welcome:

Hi Chad, I noticed you placed this list posting back in July of this year (2009), and by now you've gotten much more acquainted with your MXT, or at least hope so. I've had specialized gold prospecting detectors for years, and just recently sold the Whites GMT I was having problems with using, ending up buying an MXT - the second multi purpose detector I've ever owned. I've only had my MXT for a few weeks now, and haven't yet taken it out in the gold fields to see how it does - am looking forward it. With the GMT, I had problems using it to pinpoint my targets while digging them up, as once the ground matrix was disturbed by my digging, the target somehow was no longer detectable - very strange. I'm in hopes I don't encounter the same problem with this MXT, since the main purpose for any detector is to FIND metal targets - not find and lose them!!! LOL With the lower operating frequency of the MXT versus that of the 48khz GMT, I'm more than sure I'm going to have better depth capabilities, and hopefully find a few of those larger nuggets, coins, or whatever. I'm interested to hear how you're doing with your MXT, and to compare notes if interested in doing so. HAPPY "SAFE" HUNTING!!! Gerry

Hi Gerry,
Still working with my MXT, haven't been out much, I have had some problems like you with finding targets and then loosing them after i start digging. Being new I thought maybe i was doing something wrong.
I was looking today for utah detecting clubs in my area I am not sure about my technique and could use all the pointers i can get. If you figure out anything please let me know.
